MBI Management Team Expands Commercial Capabilities: Lansing-based MBI announced that Allen Julian, a seasoned chemical industry executive, has joined the company as its chief business officer, bringing both breadth and depth in a variety of technical and commercial roles, including business development, marketing, strategic planning, process engineering and operations management. The move caps an approximately 20 percent increase in MBI's work force over the past year, enhancing MBI's capability to commercialize bio-based technologies that are in early stages of development. Julian brings more than 20 years of experience with large chemical companies ICI, Huntsman and Chemtura, as well as smaller biotechnology companies Draths Corp. and Amyris Inc. He received a chemical engineering degree from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Wharton. MBI has collaborated recently with companies such as OPXBIO, Genomatica, and DuPont Applied Sciences to accelerate commercialization efforts. MBI now employs 37 people, with the recent additions adding to existing expertise in molecular biology, fermentation, process engineering, and organic and analytical chemistry. The expanded team supports a growing pipeline of projects undergoing commercial development. For more information, visit www.mbi.org.
