At the end of the 2011 NFL season I took an early look at the draft and made the statement “Don’t be surprised if the Detroit Lions take a defensive lineman in the 1st round”. I also tweeted this statement. The response was unkind to say the least. People thought I was stupid, crazy and clueless. Fans and media all thought it would be a defensive back or bust. Fast forward to now and well, well well… Looks like a lot of these so called Lions “experts” aren’t only acknowledging it’s a possibility but are projecting it to happen in their mock drafts. Whether or not the Lions actually draft a defensive lineman doesn’t even matter anymore. The fact that it’s been a real possibility all along has been rewarding enough. For the record if the Lions stay at 23 I think all the defensive linemen that they covet won’t be available anymore and they end up with T Jonathan Martin from Stanford.

*Sleeper pick – DE/OLB Shea McClellin from Boise St.
