Report: Alleged Bashara Mistress Wants Protection
GROSSE POINTE PARK (WWJ) - Bob Bashara's alleged former mistress has reportedly taken out a personal protection order against him.
Bashara's wife Jane was found murdered in January and police have called him a person of interest in the case.
Attorney David Grim said his client has not kept in touched with his former girlfriend.
"My client has not been in contact with her. We have not seen the proposed personal protection order," Grim told WWJ Newsradio 950.
Grim said the woman, Rachel Gillette, may be reacting to information his office has developed.
"Our investigators have developed several persons of interest in our search for the truth," said Grim. "I would indicate to you that Rachel Gillette is one of those persons of interest that we have developed."
Grim added that he has seen no evidence that Gillette has grounds for a PPO.
"Anybody can walk in, make allegations and attempt to get a personal protection order," he said.
Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950, Gillette 's attorney Doraid Elder said the case has nearly ruined his client's life.
"It's has affected her ability to move forward. It's had a detrimental effect on her employment ... she's embarrassed to go out in public," said Elder. "And this is all because a lie and the selfishness of Bob Bashara."
Elder adds his client has been fully cooperating with police investigating the Jane Bashara murder. He said she's in fear for her life.
"Knowing Bob is a number one suspect in his wife's murder, (Gillett) is petrified. He's not the same individual she thought she knew," Elder said.
After allegedly warning Bashara for weeks to leave her alone, Elder said Gillett decided to go to the court for help.
The body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old Grosse Pointe Park mother of two, was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley on Jan. 25. An autopsy showed that she had extensive bruising to her upper body, a crushed windpipe and missing fingernails.
Her husband reported her missing the night before.
Joe Gentz, the Bashara family's former handyman, has confessed to the murder, reportedly telling police that he was paid to kill her.
