Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! If you're driving anywhere on Metro Detroit freeways this weekend, you'll want to double-check your route because there are several closures.

The road work doesn't stop on Sunday either, with several projects slated to restrict lanes on freeways beginning on Monday.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

Full closures:

I-75:

In Wayne County, both directions of I-75 will be closed between the Fort Street/Schaefer Highway exit in Detroit, and the Fort Street exit near Rockwood from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Sunday for demolition of the two existing Dix-Toledo Road overpasses above I-75 in Brownstown Township.

Southbound through traffic will exit onto eastbound Schaefer Highway and use southbound Fort Street to access southbound I-75 in Rockwood. Northbound through traffic will exit onto northbound Fort Street in Rockwood and continue north to westbound Schaefer Highway back to northbound I-75. (More info, here)

M-3 (Gratiot Ave):

In Macomb County, northbound and southbound M-3 will be closed between Crocker Road and Dickinson Street from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday for the Let's Move Marathon in downtown Mount Clemens.

Lane closures:

I-75:

In Oakland County, the left lane of northbound I-75 will be closed from Maple to Rochester roads from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work.

I-696:

In Oakland County, the right lane of eastbound I-696 will be closed from Halstead to Drake road, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work.

In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed at Ryan Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Sunday for barrier wall work.

I-275:

In Wayne County, northbound and southbound I-275 will be reduced to a single lane between Plymouth Road and Hines Drive from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

I-94:

In Wayne County, a single lane will be closed on eastbound I-94 from Monroe Street to the M-39 interchange from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday for sign upgrading.

In Wayne County, eastbound I-94 exit to Pelham Road will have a right lane closure from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday for sign work.

M-3 (Gratiot Avenue):

In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed on southbound M-3 from Allen Street to the westbound I-696 Service Drive from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday for resurfacing work on the service drive.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Wayne County, the left two lanes of northbound M-39, from Allen to Van Born roads, and the left two lanes of southbound M-39 from Fern Street to I-94, will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday for ongoing bridge work at the M-39/I-94 interchange.

Starting the week of Monday, April 30:

I-275:

In Wayne County, a long-term right lane closure on northbound and southbound I-275 between Hannan Road (just north of I-94) to the lower Rouge River (at Michigan Ave) for ongoing bridge work.

I-94:

In Wayne County, the right lane of eastbound I-94 will be closed from the M-39 interchange to Outer Drive from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday for sign work.

M-3 (Gratiot Ave):

In Macomb County, starting Monday, April 30 until late May, there will be intermittent single lane closures during off-peak hours on northbound and southbound M-3 between Metro Parkway and 8 Mile Road for sign upgrading.

M-97 (Groesbeck Highway):

In Macomb County, starting Monday, April 30 until late May, there will be intermittent single lane closures during off-peak hours on northbound and southbound M-97 between 8 Mile Road and Hayes Road for sign upgrading.

M-19:

In St. Clair County, starting Monday, April 30 until mid May, there will be intermittent single lane closures during off-peak hours on northbound and southbound M-19 between Brennan Road and LaSalle Street for sign upgrading.
