Yankees 7, Tigers 6

NEW YORK (WWJ/AP) - Miguel Cabrera hits his 1000th career RBI but the New York Yankees have the final say beating the Detroit Tigers 7-6 on Friday night.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - Cabrera hits the magic RBI number and Justin Verlander pitched 6 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, with four strike outs before being relieved.

The loss is the fifth in a row for the Tigers - who came into the game under a media and legal storm after police say teammate Delmon Young got into a fight with a group of men outside the team's midtown Manhattan hotel and yelled anti-Semitic epithets.

Young was arraigned on a hate crime harassment charge.

Derek Jeter scored on a passed ball with one out in the ninth inning and the New York Yankees rallied to beat the Tigers.

Alex Rodriguez homered and drove in two runs, Russell Martin hit a two-run homer and the Yankees bullpen held steady when Ivan Nova turned in the latest shaky performance by a New York starter.

Jeter drew a one-out walk from Brayan Villarreal (0-1) and went to third when Villarreal threw a wild pitch on ball four to Curtis Granderson.

With Rodriguez up, Villarreal's 2-0 pitch glanced off catcher Alex Avila's glove and Jeter barely beat Avila's throw to Villarreal at the plate.
