High Schoolers Could Have Records Cleared After Food Fight Arrests

MONROE (WWJ/AP) - Four students at a Monroe high school arrested in a food fight can avoid criminal records if they complete a diversion program.

A dozen Jefferson High School students were suspended for their roles in the food fight last month. Officials say the food fight was so bad that damage was done to school property, and students were put in danger of injury.

Superintendent Craig Haugen told The Monroe Evening News the four boys who were arrested were among 12 students suspended.

He didn't reveal the lengths of the suspensions, but said none of the students have been expelled.

"The situation has been dealt with. We're moving forward," said Haugen.

The four students who were arrested must complete a diversion program to have their records cleared.

They were charged with creating a disturbance, which is a 90-day misdemeanor.
