2 Bodies Found In Burned-Out Car

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two bodies were discovered in a burned-out car on Detroit's west side Monday morning. Police tell WWJ Newsradio 950 the body of a man was found in the trunk and the body of a woman was found in the backseat.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office said both died of gunshot wounds to the head.

Investigators had been working the scene since fire crews made the discovery after 1 a.m.  between two vacant homes.

As crime scene investigators pulled out, neighbors watched as the flatbed truck with the burned-out hull of the car was taken away from the scene.

One nearby resident, Jennifer Schafer, told WWJ's Ron Dewey she didn't see the burning car, but didn't have to.

"I was sleep and I heard the boom and then I walked out," Schafer said. "We just thought it was a regular fire and it was funny cause where I went to bed, I was like, you know what, the gas was cut off to that. And then I'm like, I wonder if there's a body ... something like that; and then just turn on the news just now and I see you guys out here."

The car was found in a secluded neighborhood in the I-96/Outer Drive area where Shafer says, there are more than a few abandoned homes that have also become dumping grounds for, at least this early morning, more than just trash.

No names have been released.
