Boy Hit While Walking To School

DETROIT (WWJ) - An 11-year-old boy is hospitalized after he was he was hit by a car while walking to school Thursday morning.

Investigators said the accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on Joy Road and Trinity near Dixon Elementary School.

A statement issued by Detroit Public Schools said the eighth grade student was crossing in the middle of the street, going to his mother's car on the other side of the street, when he was struck by a vehicle.

Police said the driver of that vehicle, a 42-year-old female, stopped at the scene and was uninjured.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time.

DPS said the boy had just gone to the gas station, which is against school policy.

No names have been released.
