Michigan-Shot Film To Be Shown In Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ/AP) - A romantic comedy starring Jenna Fischer that was shot in Michigan is set to open in the Great Lakes State. The Detroit Zoo is the setting and downtown Royal Oak gets its share of screen time, too.

"The Giant Mechanical Man" is to be shown for the first time Friday in Birmingham, with show times during the day and at night. Writer/director Lee Kirk is scheduled to hold a question-and-answer session with attendees following the screening at the Uptown Theater on Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham.

The movie also was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last month. Get more information about it here.

According to imdb.com, the movie is an offbeat romantic comedy about a silver-painted street performer and the soft-spoken zoo worker who falls for him.

In addition to Fischer, "The Giant Mechanical Man" features Topher Grace, Chris Messina, Malin Akerman and Bob Odenkirk.
