Ice-T, Coco To Visit Detroit For Music Festival

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Can't get enough of the wacky combo that is rapper and TV star Ice T and his bootylicious wife Nicole 'Coco' Austin? Then you'll have another reason to visit the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit on Sunday, May 27.

Ice T will serve as special guest emcee for the festival's Main Stage on May 27, introducing the performances by Loco Dice (a hip-hop DJ/producer earlier in his career) and headliner Public Enemy.

Ice T and Coco will also mix and mingle with guests inside the almost sold-out VIP area in the festival that celebrates everything about electronic music. Detroit is considered the birthplace of electronic music.

"Movement is riding a very strong wave of momentum right now and having Ice T and Coco here in Detroit for the festival will only add to it," said Jason Huvaere, executive director of the Memorial Day Weekend festival, in a press release.

Tickets for the VIP area behind the Main Stage are almost sold out and three-day weekend general admission passes are selling at a record pace.  In 2011, Hart Plaza reached capacity on the Saturday with a sell-out crowd and Huvaere says he anticipates the festival will surpass the 100,000 attendee mark for the weekend.

"With the authentic underground styles we have represented across five stages, our posh VIP area, and having so many music and entertainment icons apart of this festival provides those who attend a unique Detroit experience that is unlike any other event in the country," said Huvaere.

Ice T today is a star on "Law and Order SVU" and co-stars with his wife Coco on the popular reality series "Ice Loves  Coco" on E!  He recently made his directorial debut with the documentary "Something from Nothing: the Art of Rap," which features more than 50 emcees including Kool Keith, Detroit's Eminem, Kanye West, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Melle Mell.  The documentary was a success at the Sundance Film Festival premiere and is set for theater release in June 2012.

A limited number of three-day VIP passes are still available for $200 per person. Three-day general admission weekend passes are currently on sale for $80 per person and will increase to $90 on Friday, May 11.  Pre-sale one-day passes are now available for $45 per day.  For more details and to purchase festival tickets visit www.movement.us.  For more details about afterparties and to purchase tickets visit, www.movementafterparties.com
