Ex-Baseball Player Curtis Investigated In Michigan
WOODLAND, Mich. (AP) — Chad Curtis' future as a high school football coach is on hold while Michigan authorities investigate reports of misconduct between the ex-major league baseball player and female students.
Lakewood schools Superintendent Michael O'Mara said Monday that the investigation in Barry County involves allegations of improper touching. Curtis hasn't been charged with a crime, and Curtis lawyer David Dodge says his client denies any criminal wrongdoing.
Dodge talked to prosecutors last week. Curtis was tapped to coach football at Lakewood High School in Woodland, about 50 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. O'Mara says Curtis is suspended while the investigation is active.
Curtis played for the then-California Angels, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers in 1992-2001. He won the World Series with the Yankees.
