Felony Charges In Death Of Man Sitting In Road

LENOX TWP. (WWJ) - Charges have been filed in connection with a fatal accident early Thursday morning in Macomb County.

John Radar, 39, is facing several charges, including operating while intoxicated causing death, a felony, after he fled the scene of an accident on County Line Road south of 27 Mile Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed Radar struck a man who was sitting in the street before his vehicle went into a ditch. After telling a witness he was going to a friend's house, police say Radar ran away on foot.

He was located with the help of a Sheriff's Department K9 officer and taken into custody pending charges from the Macomb County Prosecutors Office.

Radar was arraigned Friday afternoon at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore. Bond was set at $150,000 cash/surety.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Matthew Thompson of Casco Township.   It's still not clear why Thompson was sitting in the middle of the road.
