Ex-Lion Boyd Gets Prison In Sex Case With Minor

PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - Former Detroit Lions receiver Tommie Boyd has been sentenced to at least five years in prison for having sexual contact with a teenage girl.

Boyd was sentenced Friday, a month after pleading no contest to two charges, including second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl at a movie theater in Oakland County. He had served as the girl's trainer in sports.

The sentence will run concurrent to the prison time Boyd is already serving for a different case involving another underage student. He received credit for the 380 days he has already spent behind bars.

In court, the 40-year-old apologized for his actions.

"I'm sorry that I'm standing before you.  I know that you have to impose the sentencing, and I respect that. And, I know that, whatever it may be, that God still has something bigger for me after all this is over with," said Boyd.

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Diane Druzinski said that, when he is released from prison, Boyd will wear tether for the rest of his life.

Boyd played for the Lions in the late 1990s and later worked as a personal trainer and track coach at Fraser High School.
