PONTIAC (WWJ) – The Pontiac School District is expected to make more cuts.
The cuts could reportedly be coming soon — because the state is pressuring school administrators to cut $15 million from the budget.
Talking to the Oakland Press, Pontiac Interim School Superintendent Walter Burt said the new cuts are expected to include additional teacher and principal layoffs at the secondary level and some special education teachers. He said there will also be more cuts to the clerical and secretarial staff.
And Burt says the new round of cuts won’t be the last with more expected next school year.
The latest news comes as the FBI is investigating Pontiac Schools budget audits. In March, a former assistant superintendent for Pontiac Schools was indicted on corruption and money laundering charges. (More on this here).
