HFCC Offers Customer Service Training

DETROIT (WWJ) - Have you ever been the victim of customer service hell? Endless phone prompts and then when you speak to a real person, they give you robotic answers with little empathy.

Henry Ford Community College is one of a handful of schools in the country offering a one year certificate for Customer Service professionals.

Customer Service jobs are number two on the list of the top 50 jobs in high demand-high wage careers.

HFCC instructor Diane Smith was once a rep herself.

"The number one people must have is empathy for the customer, no matter how demanding," Smith told WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne

She said said that each week she will get calls from companies looking for graduates of her classes for job opportunities.

Smith said customer service today means more than an 800 number, reps must be trained to handle customer issues on line and in social media.
