Waterford K9 Cop Injured In Auto Accident

WATERFORD (WWJ) -  A Waterford Police K9 Officer remains hospitalized after being involved in a serious accident.

It happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Elizabeth Lake Road and Scott Lake Road when Officer Annette Miller reportedly hit another vehicle before slamming into a tree.

Police say Miller was on patrol when she observed a sport style motorcycle traveling west bound on Elizabeth Lake Road at a high rate of speed.

According to police, Miller was attempting to follow and identify the motorcycle when a blue Volkswagen turned in front of her. Miller swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid a collision with the Volkswagen before leaving the roadway and striking a tree.

Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to get her out of the mangled SUV police vehicle. Miller was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition at this time.

The K9 was transported to a local veterinarian with a minor injury to his paw. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old man from Waterford, was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons and was released.

The motorcycle is described as a black sport style bike being driven by an unknown male wearing a white helmet with a gold or dark stripe and tan pants.

Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in locating the motorcycle and identifying the driver. If you have any information on this incident, contact the Waterford Police at 248-618-7550.
