According to a report from a Czech newspaper, passed along by CBC’s Elliotte Friedman, goaltender Dominik Hasek may be looking to make a return to the NHL.
A couple of things to keep in mind here.
For one, Hasek is currently 47 years old. For some perspective, there was only one goalie in the NHL during the 2011-12 season over the age of 40, and that was Tampa Bay’s Dwayne Roloson (42).
Hasek hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2007-08 season when he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings, and if you recall correctly it didn’t exactly go all that well for him. He was eventually benched during the playoffs in favor of Chris Osgood as the Red Wings went on to win the Stanley Cup, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.
