Cars At Dealership Destroyed By Fallen Power Line

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A Southfield car dealership is looking at a big cleanup following some wild weather Monday night.

Storms that rolled into Metro Detroit late on Memorial Day brought down a power line that burned 8 Hyundais at Glassman Automotive Group's Hyundai-Kia-Subaru showroom at 12 Mile and Telegraph.

No one was hurt, but owner George Glassman said that many of the vehicles that were damaged are a complete loss.

"The interiors [look] like something that you've seen of cars that have been destroyed overseas … in Afghanistan or in other places," said Glassman.  "It's very surreal feeling … If you didn't know any different you'd say they were firebombed," said Glassman.

The loss of the vehicles is especially problematic for the dealership.

"Inventories have been short … so this doesn't help …" said Glassman.  "… But I totally expect that Hyundai will come to our aid and get us some additional cars pretty quickly."

Glassman hopes that the dealership would be able to conduct at least some business on Tuesday, even though they are without power.
