Teen Driver Allegedly 'Huffing' Prior To Crash

HARTLAND (WWJ) - The Livingston County Sheriff's Department is seeking charges against a teen who struck a security officer with a vehicle in a school parking lot.

On May 15, the teen ran into Susan Hazzard in the parking lot of Hartland High School.

Sheriff's officials say it happened after spraying a household product from an aerosol can into a rag inhaling  it, known as "huffing,"  and then passing out.

The sheriff's department was initially told the 16-year-old from Brighton dropped something on the floor in the car and bent down to get it but hit the gas pedal instead.

A 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle could also be charged.

The security guard is recovering.
