Al-Qaeda Deputy Leader Killed In U.S. Drone Strike

DETROIT (WWJ) - U.S. officials say a drone strike has killed al-Qaida's second-in-command.

The death of Abu Yahya al-Libi is a significant blow to the terror network that has lost a string of top leaders since the death of Osama bin Laden last year.

But Wayne State terrorism expert, professor Richard Chazdi says terrorism is not something you can eradicate.

"Over the years what I've tried to do is describe it as a lot like Arthritis -- you can't cure it, but you can diminish its effects with proper diet an exercise," Chazdi told WWJ Newsradio 950.

"So, I think that this notion of trying to eliminate it -- and to think that once bin Ladin was killed, that that's the end of the story -- it's just another turn in a continuously evolving story," he said.

The American official who confirmed al-Libi's death said no one left in al-Qaida comes close to replacing the expertise the group has just lost.
