Kindergartner Dies After Collapse At School Event
NORTON SHORES, Mich. (AP) — Counselors will be on hand at a West Michigan elementary school after a kindergartner collapsed on a playground during the school's field day events and died.
The Muskegon Chronicle and WOOD-TV report the 6-year-old boy was unresponsive Monday afternoon at Churchill Elementary School in Norton Shores before being taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death wasn't known and his name wasn't immediately released.
Mona Shores Public Schools Superintendent Dave Peden says the child's mother was volunteering for field day and was quickly at her son's side.
Peden says teachers plan to discuss the child's death with students at the Muskegon-area school on Tuesday. Counselors and pastors are to be available.
