Key Hearing For Ex-MLB Player Curtis In Sex Case

HASTINGS, Mich. (AP) — Former major league outfielder Chad Curtis faces a key court hearing on charges he touched two female students at a Michigan high school where he was in line to become football coach.

Curtis is charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct. He's to appear Wednesday in Barry County District Court for a preliminary examination that will determine whether the 43-year-old defendant is ordered to stand trial on the charges.

Defense lawyer David Dodge Sr. says Curtis denies any criminal wrongdoing.

Curtis was volunteering at Lakewood High School in Woodland, about 50 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Between 1992 and 2001, Curtis played for the then-California Angels, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. He won two World Series rings with the Yankees.
