DETROIT (WWJ) – One Detroit community will have a new and improved look, as a group of volunteers get together for “Clean Up the D-Day.”

The area they worked on is bordered by Gratiot and Hoover, between east Seven Mile and east State Fair.

The creator of the event, channel 4 Reporter Katrina Hancock, spoke with WWJ:

“It’s important because I feel like I’ve been given a gift as a journalist, when I hear someone, yesterday, saying,  ”We’ve got water in my basement, in the house next door to us and we’ve called the water department”, well, yesterday I was there and I called the water department they were out in 30 minutes to fix the problem,” said Hancock.

Gloves, trash bags and drinks were provided for volunteers — the event ran until 2 p.m. Saturday.
