Shots Fired In Roseville Jewelry Theft

DETROIT (WWJ) - Shots were fired Tuesday evening as a man made off with a diamond ring from a Roseville jewelry store.

Roseville police said it was around 7 p.m. a man entered Gianinis Jewelers, located on Gratiot Avenue between 12 Mile Road and Martin Road. Police said the man requested to view a diamond ring with a gold band valued at about $16,500, put the ring on his finger and immediately fled the store.

The store owner followed the suspect, chasing him into the store's parking lot and yelling at him to stop.

Police said the suspect turned and reached behind his back as if grabbing a gun. The owner then pulled out a handgun, firing several shots at the man.  The man ran to a waiting black Pontiac Bonneville driven by an unknown second suspect. The pair then sped from the parking lot and struck a metal sign.

Police said they didn't get far. The car was found in a parking lot a short distance away.

Despite a police K-9 search of the area, the suspects were not found.

Police said evidence found at the scene and in the vehicle has led them to a suspect.  A warrant is expected to be issued soon.
