FBI Detroit Acting Head Dies

(Detroit-WWJ) The acting special agent in charge  of the Detroit office of the FBI has died.

The Bureau said Wednesday that Todd Mayberry died of complications of liver cancer at 41.

Mayberry had recently been appointed interim chief following the May resignation of Andrew Arena.

FBI spokesman Simon Shaykhet told the Detroit Free Press that Mayberry continued to work as recently as last week.

A member of the FBI since 1997, Mayberry was a counterterrorism expert who worked on a number of high-profile investigations, including convicted "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab and the southern Michigan-based Hutaree militia case.

The Saint Louis-born Mayberry is survived by his wife and their two children, his parents and a brother.
