Suburbs Will Help Police Fireworks, But It'll Cost Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said Friday that both counties are happy to help the city of Detroit host a safe fireworks show.

But both county executives say the city must reimburse taxpayers completely for the costs of law enforcement personnel.

Oakland County has agreed to send 52 deputies, 14 mounted deputies, and 30 reserve deputies to the fireworks. Macomb County will send 20 deputies and 20 reserve deputies.

Hackel and Patterson say both counties will deploy their deputies with the full expectation of total reimbursement by the City of Detroit.
