Michigan's Family Heritage Collection On The Move

LANSING (AP) - A key portion of Michigan's archives is on the move.

The Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Department of Natural Resources have agreed to move selected family heritage collections to the reading room of the Archives of Michigan. They'd been housed in the Library of Michigan.

The move is expected to continue the state's stewardship of the collection and better align resources of both groups. It will take place this summer with a rededication planned during the Abrams Genealogy Seminar on July 13. It completes the realignment of Library of Michigan services necessitated by budget and staffing reductions.

State Librarian Nancy Robertson says in a release that the "library's Michigan materials will remain available to all interested in using them," and library and archives materials will remain available to researchers."
