Tigers Blank Rockies 5-0

DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET/AP) - Starter Max Scherzer combined eight shut-out innings and 12 strike-outs to lead the Detroit Tigers to victory over the Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Sunday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers take the series from the Rockies with the win- coming back to win two in a row after losing the first game in extra innings.

Scherzer (6-4) started right where he left off after a 53-minute rain delay in the fourth inning helping Detroit to win a third straight series.

Quintin Berry went 5 for 5 in the Tiger win, Ramon Santiago had a 2 RBI single.

Gerald Laird doubled in the 2nd inning to bring in a run - Prince Fielder doubled for an RBI - Cabrera doubled as well to bring in Austin Jackson in the 6th inning.

Jeremy Guthrie lasted only three innings for the Rockies, who have lost 10 of 11.

Colorado was missing slugger Carlos Gonzalez, scratched moments before the first pitch with a sore right hamstring. He was replaced in the lineup by Dexter Fowler, who struck out in his first three at-bats, all with runners on base.
