Alex Avila To Scoop Hudsonville Ice Cream At Summer Extravaganza

DETROIT — Baseball fans and ice cream lovers are all invited to a free downtown ice cream social that will bring two Michigan favorites together. Hudsonville Ice Cream is hosting Hudsonville Summer Extravaganza to celebrate becoming the official ice cream of the Detroit Tigers. Hudsonville Summer Extravaganza is free and open to the public and will be held at Campus Martius on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

"The Detroit Tigers bring so much positive energy to Detroit and Michigan, we want to be a part of that. Tigers games are all about enjoying the summer with family and friends and that aligns perfectly with Hudsonville Ice Cream. Baseball and ice cream create a wonderful partnership and we are proud to support the great causes behind the Detroit Tigers Foundation," said Hudsonville Ice Cream representative Caryn Miller.

Alex Avila, Detroit Tigers All Star catcher, will be scooping ice cream from 11 am to noon. Paws and the DTE Energy Squad will also be greeting guests at the event.

To support the Detroit Tigers Foundation, Hudsonville Summer Extravaganza will have a receptacle for donations. They will also be holding a free raffle for fans. A winner will be drawn at random every hour. Raffle prizes will include: an autographed bat, an autographed ball, and an autographed photograph. All proceeds from the Hudsonville Summer Extravaganza will benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation.

The mission of the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, is to enhance lives through the game of baseball with a focus on youth, education and recreation. The Detroit Tigers Foundation aids in the development and funding of innovation programs, including field renovation projects that reach our community with positive messages and promote the good citizenship embodied in the storied history of the Tigers.

A check presentation ceremony to the Detroit Tigers Foundation will take place at Comerica Park at approximately 6:40 p.m. before the Detroit Tigers take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
