Police Say Woman Shot To Death Was Targeted

INKSTER (WWJ) - Police in Inkster suspect foul play in the shooting death of a woman outside of her own home.

Police say the incident happened around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Michigan Avenue and Inkster Road. Police Detective Anthony Delgreco told The Detroit Free Press 49-year-old Cheryl Fields was ambushed outside of her home at 3015 Williams Street.

When officers arrived, Fields was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Investigators say they have reason to believe that this was not a random incident, but that Fields was deliberately targeted.

"We're looking for a male that supposedly had an incident with her a couple days ago," Delgreco told The Detroit Free Press, declining to release additional information on the man.

Police do not have anyone in custody at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Inkster Police Department at 313-563-9850 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
