Tips Sought In Centerline Fireworks Shooting

CENTERLINE (WWJ) - Police in Centerline are hoping for a lead in the case of a late-night shooting that left a young man hospitalized.

Lt. Thomas Costello told WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas that gunfire was heard just after the city's fireworks show wrapped up Tuesday.

The victim, a 19-year-old Warren man, was discovered shortly after.

"At approximately 11 o'clock last night we saw a victim of a shooting that was in front of our station," said Costello. "There were hundreds of people around, so we're asking the public for any help..."

The man, whose name has not been released, suffered a gunshot would to the shoulder.

He was listed in temporary serious condition Wednesday morning.

Costello said investigators don't know what the motive for the shooting might have been. He said, with so many people around, it was a blessing that no one else was hit.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 5'11'' tall, 270 lbs. with his hair braided.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Centerline police at (586) 757-2200.
