Alburquerque Makes Progress In Elbow Rehab

RHP Al Alburquerque has thrown to hitters in batting cages, and after a couple of live batting practice sessions, he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Alburquerque had offseason surgery to repair a slight fracture of the bone in the tip of his right elbow and was targeted for a return after the All-Star break. Rookie RHP Brayan Villarreal has filled in as the mid-inning reliever who can strike hitters out, but Alburquerque was spectacular in that role last year.

--3B Miguel Cabrera was a caught line drive away from a five-hit game Thursday night, finishing with his 16th home run to up his RBI count to 62. "He's incredible," teammate CF Austin Jackson said. "When he gets going, he's something to watch." Cabrera is putting a good finishing kick to a road trip that started with him in a slump. "
