The Amazing Spider-Man: Truly AMAZING!
HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) - "The Amazing Spider-Man" is truly AMAZING! The latest version of the Spider-Man story offers a fresh take on Spider-Man and how shy Peter Parker became the legendary superhero.
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. His love interest, Gwen Stacey, is portrayed by Golden Globe-nominated actress Emma Stone. Rhys Ifans stars as Dr. Curt Connors and Spider-Man's nemesis The Lizard. Denis Leary is Captain Stacy; Campbell Scott is Richard Parker; Irrfan Khan is Ratha; Martin Sheen is Uncle Ben and Sally Field stars as Aunt May.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" is marking the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man. According to the film's producers, the classic comic book character made its debut in Issue #15 of the anthology series "Amazing Fantasy" in August, 1962. Amazing Fantasy also ended with this issue and the Spider-Man story continued in a new series, called The Amazing Spider-Man, beginning in 1963.
This 50th anniversary version of the Spider-Man story is an exciting, fast-paced 3D film that is thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Garfield is excellent in the dual roles of Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and he and Stone – as two love-struck teenagers – have a chemistry that totally sizzles on-screen. So, grab a large tub of popcorn and get ready for what's sure to be a summer blockbuster!
Tip: when the credits start to roll, don't rush to be one of the first out of the theatre! Be sure to stick around for a "teaser" to – what I'm guessing – is definitely going to be a highly-anticipated sequel.
The Amazing Spider-Man is rated PG-13.
