Woman Loses Part Of Leg In Boating Accident
PORTAGE (AP) - Authorities say a Kalamazoo woman lost part of her leg in a boating accident on a southwestern Michigan lake.
Mlive.com reports the 23-year-old woman had been riding a tube behind a boat Sunday afternoon on Austin Lake in Portage. The boat's driver started backing up the vessel to retrieve some people in the water and did not see the woman.
Police say she was pulled into the boat's propeller and under the water. People pulled her into the boat and called for help.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff's deputies say the woman's leg was severed near the knee. She was taken to a local a hospital, where she was in serious condition.
Her name has not been released.
