Wearable Work Of Art: The $1 Million Bra

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - A Birmingham store is helping women look like a million bucks -- literally.

WWJ's Vickie Thomas was able to try on the $1 million, 18 karat gold bra at Birmingham Estate and Jewelery Buyers on Woodward Avenue.

Anthony Aubrey, who owns the store and created the bra, said the blinged out brassiere took over three months to design. He said a crew of 40 workers spent almost a year creating the wearable art.

"It's just over 500 carats of diamonds, these are all natural diamonds, and it has 750 grams of gold, it is solid gold," said Aubrey, adding that this bra is unlike any other.

"The difference between this bra and the Victoria's Secret bras is the Victoria's Secret bras have fabric in them and the diamonds are kind of imbedded into the fabric. This, there's no fabric in it what so ever, it's just solid gold," he said.

With how extravagant the bra is, many women are left wondering if anyone would actually wear the item, or if it's more of a showpiece.

"If you just have that much money, someone would want it to say 'Oh, I have a $1 million bra,' or some people would put it on display at their house or something, and some people, believe it or not, would actually want to wear it," said Aubrey, who named the bra after his wife, Rita.

Either way, whoever owns the lavish lingerie is sure to gain some attention.

"We've had three different models wear this so far out in public at shows and it never fails to turn some heads," said Aubrey.
