Would You Rather Sweat Or Freeze At A Game?

By: Ryan Wooley

After Tuesday night's thumping that the LA Angels put on the Detroit Tigers in near record heat, it got me thinking about the fans in attendance and how bad it had to suck being at that game, and if baseball games in this hot, humid weather is the worst to attend.

I mean honestly, what a terrible night to go to Comerica Park for a game this season. Not just because Detroit was shelled 13-0 and the game was technically over in the first, but because fans had to sit in the stands, baking in the sun and sweating off 10lbs just to feel like they didn't burn their money.

I bet most fans if given the choice would have burned the money they spent had they known how the game would go—as that would have provided more entertainment.

With that said though, would you rather sit in the stands in sweat your butt off in the summer, or sit in an open air football stadium like Soldier Field, Lambeau Field or Gillette Stadium and freeze your junk off in late fall early winter?

I ask this because we always hear from fans that they wished Ford Field was built without a roof, or at least a retractable one, but I question whether those fans that say that would truly embrace it.

I'll be quite honest, I like the domed stadiums. I like knowing that when I walk into Ford Field for a Lions game that I can leave my coat in the car and just wear a comfortable outfit without fear of getting frostbite or soaked because of rain.

Do I still enjoy going to Spartan Stadium or the Big House in the fall and sitting out in the elements? Absolutely. But I only go in September or October when there is no threat of extremely cold temperatures. Same with the Tigers. I have no desire to go down in April and freeze or mid-summer if the temps are in triple digits like they were on Tuesday. If it rains, it rains. Can't change that. But you can try and control the temperature.

Maybe the reason behind this is because I've been to multiple sporting events over the years, or maybe it's because I'm getting older and I, like many guys now days, have a Man Cave. I would much rather sit down in my basement and watch the game on my 60" Plasma and surround sound and save the money and then go about my night.

Now I know some people will say they want to be there because of the atmosphere and I can't take that away from you. I love being a part of the atmosphere too. But if being a part of it means being uncomfortable all game long, then it's not worth the money in my books.

I mean truthfully, think about Ford Field for a minute. When the Lions were not winning and going through the wrong part of history by going 0-16, you think the fans that actually showed up would have wanted to be there watching a winless team in December in the freezing cold outside? I don't think so, and I don't think they would have shown up.

So again, what do you think is the worst game to attend? One with near or record breaking heat and humidity, or one where it's below freezing and either snowing or raining? Let your vote be known below.
