Fiesta Italiana: Celebrate Italian Culture In Mount Clemens

MOUNT CLEMENS (CBS Detroit) - The streets of downtown Mount Clemens will be buzzing with excitement this weekend when the annual Italian Festival comes to town.

The Italian American Cultural Society, is inviting residents in southeast Michigan to come out to celebrate Italian culture at their annual festival this Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22.

This is the festival's first time being held in downtown Mount Clemens.  Before this year, it was held at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights for many years until the venue closed.

The entertainment for the weekend includes live performances by Deana Martin, the daughter of the famous Dean Martin.  Luana Frazzitta will be singing songs in tribute to Italy, and there will be an opera performance.

The festival will have plenty of child-friendly events.  There will be a 'Sheriff Wickersham Family Fun Zone' with a moon walk, waterslide and face-painting.  Miniature golf, a magic show and crafts are other activities available for kids.

The festival will have all kinds of authentic Italian food, beer and wine.  And of course, what Italian festival would truly be complete without a meatball eating contest?  Along with authentic food, vendors will line the streets selling all sorts of crafts and art.

More information about the festival can be found here.
