ANN ARBOR — To meet the regional demand for evolving software development skills, SRT Solutions and Microsoft are hosting a Windows 8 Boot Camp on July 24. Attendees to the free, full-day event will learn about the new Windows 8 platform, including design tenets, programming language choices, and operating system integration points.

“Software developers are a hot commodity in the local job market,” said SRT Solutions CEO Bill Wagner. “Those who are current in their skills can command a premium salary and have their choice of jobs throughout the region. The Windows 8 Boot Camp is designed to help these developers get a leg up on their competition, and to help business owners take advantage of an important emerging technology that can help them get more out of their software investment.”

The Windows 8 Boot Camp is hands-on learning, where developers will dive into code and learn new features, including snapping, contracts and charms, appbars, and tiles as well as how to monetize applications in the Windows Store. Boot Camp attendees will also learn common patterns for using Windows 8 and Windows Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, together.

Hands-on application development will be done in either C# and XAML or HTML/CSS and JavaScript.

The Windows 8 Boot Camp will be led by Jennifer Marsman, a principal developer evangelist in Microsoft’s Developer and Platform Evangelism group, where she educates developers on Microsoft’s new technologies. She is a frequent speaker at software development conferences across the United States. Prior to becoming a developer evangelist, Marsman was a software developer in Microsoft’s Natural Interactive Services division. In this role, she earned two patents for her work in search and data mining algorithms.
