Chrysler Considering $198 Million Investment To Increase Pentastar V-6 Output

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Chrysler has informed employees at its Mack Engine Plant in Detroit that it is considering a plan to invest nearly $200 million to build its 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine.

"Chrysler Group will be working with the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan regarding potential economic development incentives to assist us in making the business case for the investment," the company said in a statement.

Reports state that the investment would create about 250 new jobs.

Chrysler produces the 3.7-liter V6 engine for the Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 at the Mack Avenue plant, but this type of engine will be discontinued and replaced by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.

This news comes on the heels of reports by Chrysler two weeks ago that it plans to close the Mack Avenue Engine plant, with hopes to reassign the 200 employees that would be laid-off.

In March, Chrysler's Sergio Marchionne spoke to "60 Minutes" about resurrecting Chrysler- click HERE for the video link.
