DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – Michigan Humane Society cruelty investigators are looking into what caused the death of an adult black Pit Bull terrier late last week.

The deceased dog was found in the road with a length of rope tied around her neck and lettering spray-painted on her body. MHS is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the dog’s death.

The dog was found in the 19100 block of St. Mary’s, near 7 Mile on Detroit’s northwest side. MHS cruelty investigators found the rope tied tightly around the dog’s neck, with no other discernible injuries. The letters “P B S” were spray-painted in white on the dog’s left side, with other markings painted on the dog’s back, sides and legs.

MHS is currently awaiting the results of a necropsy to determine cause of death.

“The see something this graphic, and with this kind of disregard for life, it’s disturbing,” said MHS Inspector Deborah MacDonald.

“It’s terrible to even begin to imagine what this dog went through, but that’s why we’re so concerned about finding out who did this. I mean, anyone who could do this to an animal really needs to be identified, and hopefully we’re able to pursue charges,” MacDonald said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Michigan Humane Society’s Cruelty Hotline at 313-872-3401. All tips are completely confidential, and your anonymity and privacy is assured.
