Authorities: Dog Shot, Beheaded In Northern Mich.

LOVELLS TOWNSHIP (AP) - Authorities in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula say a man shot and beheaded a dog that he claimed was aggressive and had to be put down.

The Crawford County sheriff's department says the 6-year-old pit bull was killed in Lovells Township and the body was buried, then the head apparently discarded. The department learned of the dog's killing after being called to Grayling Township after the owner had retrieved the dog's body.

The department says the dog's owner had been contacted by phone by the person, who claimed he killed the dog and planned to return the head later.

The case was under investigation and was to be sent to prosecutors for possible charges. Names of those involved weren't immediately released.
