‘Michigan Matters’ Election Exclusive: Pete Hoekstra

Carol Cain, Emmy-winning producer and host of “Michigan Matters,” is profiling the three Republican candidates vying to run against Debbie Stabenow for the U.S. Senate position in Michigan’s August 7th primary. Today’s candidate is Pete Hoekstra.

Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate

Age: 58

Campaign Slogan: “Real Solutions for Michigan and America”

Hoekstra is the former U.S. Rep for Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District who served in the House from 1993 until 2010.In the U.S. House, Hoekstra served on numerous committees including Education and Labor, Budget, and the Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Hoekstra also worked at office furniture maker Herman Miller for 15 years and was vice president of marketing.

“I have a proven track record in both business and public service of getting the job done. I understand what will lead employers to invest and hire from my experience working for 15 years at Herman Miller.  From my public service experience, I know how to enact the reforms that job creators need to begin hiring again. Our country is facing enormous challenges, and I am ready to make the tough decisions.”
