Tweddle Introduces 'Over The Air' Updates To Vehicle Software
DETROIT -- Tweddle Group, a provider of customer relationship management, owner and service information, and connected vehicle products and services for automakers, Monday announced an enhancement to its Tweddle Connect platform.
Tier 1 suppliers and developers of head units -- defined as a component of a vehicle sound system which provides a unified hardware interface for various components, what they used to call a receiver -- can now apply Tweddle's Head Unit Update API to enable the management, installation and update of in-vehicle software applications by the automaker and vehicle owner, anytime, anywhere.
With Tweddle's Head Unit Update API, an application can be easily discovered, installed and updated "over the air," without the need for a USB flash drive. The API supports most in-market head unit operating systems and application frameworks, making it easier to maintain multiple in-vehicle configurations from a single platform and with the flexibility to meet each OEM's needs.
Building on Tweddle's capabilities of developing and enabling safe access to automotive-grade applications in the vehicle, the enhanced Tweddle Connect platform's remote updates to the in-car system significantly decrease time and costs associated with services management for automakers and vehicle owners.
The Tweddle Connect platform is an end-to-end system for automakers, aligning all elements of a full-featured in-car infotainment and vehicle service platform, including mobile application development, safe access to cloud- and client-based services in the vehicle, and head unit application design and development. The system allows automakers to select preferred services for individual car models and enables customization of the user experience.
As automakers and head unit suppliers increasingly rely on telematics and connected services to help differentiate their products, Tweddle says it will continue to enhance the Tweddle Connect platform with services that provide measurable value to the automaker, dealer and vehicle owner. The Updated Speech API is the most recent of several planned platform enhancements that Tweddle will launch this year.
