Police Continue Search For Missing Troy Man

TROY (WWJ/AP) - Troy police are narrowing their search for 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr., who has been missing since his sons said he went on a bike ride.

Authorities say they believe Mikes was killed in his basement. Police have said he wouldn't have taken a bicycle ride without his helmet and riding shoes, both found in the home on Homewood Street, between Long Lake and Adams. His sons said he left on his bike July 27 when they reported him missing two days later.

Police are now focusing on a stretch of I-75 from Troy to Montrose. Investigators also want to hear from anyone who saw a beige 2002 Infinity I35 in the area on Saturday, July 29 between the hours of 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Mikes' son, 21-year-old Patrick Jr., was jailed after being charged with using credit cards belonging to his younger brother, but is also a suspect in his father's disappearance. His attorney says there's no evidence Mikes Jr. played a role. A hearing is Aug. 13.

Police say Mikes Sr.'s other son, 16-year-old Andrew, is not considered a person of interest.

Investigators searched near Flint on Friday, but their efforts were hampered by high temperatures.

Mikes is a white man, about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, with short gray hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and black spandex shorts. He was riding a black and red Cannondale Super 6 road bicycle.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
