Police ID 2 Who Died Swimming In Belleville Lake

VAN BUREN TWP. (WWJ/AP) – Authorities are releasing the names of two swimmers whose bodies were recovered from a lake in western Wayne County over the weekend.

Police in Van Buren Township say 28-year-old Eric Wayne Rose of Wayne and 20-year-old Heather Nicole Hill of Canton Township drowned after apparently becoming disoriented in the dark at Belleville Lake, located about 25 miles northeast of Detroit.

The swimmers were in the lake Saturday night with a third person and went missing near a sandbar. Their bodies were found Sunday within 30 feet of each other in eight feet of water nearly 850 feet from the beach.

Warning signs in that area of the lake say there’s deep water with a strong current.
