Dog Days Of Summer Return To Mount Clemens

MOUNT CLEMENS (CBS Detroit) - It's officially the dog days of summer -- and that's not necessarily a bad thing -- because pets and their favorite humans can get through the dog days of summer together by attending the annual pet and family-oriented day of fun in downtown Mount Clemens on August 11.

The Dog Days of Summer event is an annual day of fun for both pets and families at Macomb Place in Mount Clemens.  This event will have a variety of unique items for your pet including toys, identification tagging and grooming.

One of the centerpieces of this year's Dog Days of Summer event is Detroit Dog Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to solving the issue of stray dogs in the city of Detroit.  The organization is hoping to open the first no-kill animal shelter in Detroit, as 90 percent of strays picked up in the city are euthanized.   They estimate there are 50,000 stray dogs roaming the city.

The Ruff Troops Dog Training Club will be on hand providing entertainment with a live pet obedience demonstration.  There will also be training demonstrations to give you some tips for training your pooch.

The event will feature a magic show for children and conclude with a pet parade with multiple prizes from the best-dressed to the most uniquely-dressed pet.

The Dog Days of Summer event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  For more information, click here.
