Event Highlights Live, Local And Delicious Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Locally grown and produced food is in the spotlight this week in Detroit. The Greening of Detroit and edibleWOW host what they're calling the "Live, Love, Local Celebration" at Eastern Market -- beginning with a gala dinner at Michael Symon's Roast restaurant at the Book Cadillac.

"We really believe that a healthy ecosystem begins right here at home," said Rebecca Salminen Witt, President of the Greening of Detroit. "This is a great way to spotlight that and ... how delicious the food is that we're bringing to Detroit's tables every day."

What kinds of local food can be found in metro Detroit?

"We literally can get just about any sort of thing that you can imagine -- dairy and meat and vegetables," she said.

All proceeds from the "Live Love Local Celebration" support The Greening of Detroit's mission to inspire the sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green space, food, education, training and job opportunities.

Tickets for the Celebration at Eastern Market, Thursday, Aug. 16, are $25. (Includes food demonstrations, chef station tastings and two drink tickets). Tickets for the gala at Roast are $500.
