Wooley's Weekly Winners 8-17-12

As the third week in August rolls on that means two things. First, the Woodward Dream Cruise is happening and second, it's time to bring you my weekly winners.

As always, feel free to follow me on Twitter @WooleyMammoth85 and let me know whether you agree with my picks and if not, who you would put in their place.

With the Tigers recent success at home it's no secret that Prince Fielder has been a big part of that and fans were treated to a show Friday night with his two homers.

Fielder not only won the game with a two run blast in the 8th, he also belted another two run shot earlier in the game that was the longest homerun ever hit at Comerica Park, measuring a staggering 462 feet!

Detroit Lions
Even though we're just two weeks into the preseason and the Lions hold a 1-1 record, the first team has looked good in both games against the Browns and Ravens.

Of course with any team in August, there are always things they can work on. But the running game looked solid against the Browns as did the defense.

Against Baltimore both Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson also appeared to be in mid-season form with Calvin hauling in over 100 yards and a touchdown while Stafford tossed two scores and 184 yards.

Next week's game will be the true test though as they battle with Oakland and the starters play deep into the game.

Notre Dame
Despite what some people have said about Notre Dame's new alternate uniform and how Adidas shouldn't mess with tradition, I happen to like it and think it's a bold move for the university.

I'm not a big fan of teams constantly changing their looks, but wearing a different uniform for one game a season can not only help in merchandise sales, but draw new fans in.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't care for the helmet and how the stripe is not down the middle separating the two colors, but I do like the Leprechaun on the one side and wished it was on both.

Overall, I give the look a "B". Certainly room for improvement but not as bad as people are making it out to be.
