‘Surveyor’ Scam Alert In Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – Police are warning Metro Detroiters about a scam in Royal Oak.

Police said a man claiming he was a surveyor for the city took a Crooks Road homeowner outside to discuss a situation involving trees that needed to be cut down. After a 30 minute conversation, the visitor left on foot.

When the homeowner went back inside his house later in the day, he noticed that some money, jewelry, bonds and the title to his vehicle were missing.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 20 to 30 years old, five feet seven inches tall and 140 pounds. He has short black hair and multiple brown spots on his face and neck and was wearing a short-sleeve button up shirt and light blue casual pants.

Royal Oak police say anyone who claims they need to do work at your home should have official identification.  Anyone who is suspicious of an unknown visitor is urged to call the police.
