South Florida Prepares For Worst As Isaac Gets Closer

(CBS NEWS)  - A steady stream of cars has been bringing evacuees north from the Florida Keys as Tropical Storm Isaac gets stronger and closer.

Forecasters predict Isaac will be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the Keys later Sunday.

How is the storm impacting the Republican National Convention taking place in Tampa?

Mark Pischea GOP Great Lakes Convention Spokesman -- is in Florida for the convention. Speaking live on WWJ, Pischea says most of the activities are set to get underway a day later than originally planned.

Why was the convention planned for Florida in the heart of hurricane season? Pischea says it boils down to the fact that Florida is an important state.

The path of the storm and its impact is an hourly thing ... our schedule is to suspend activities Monday and start with the roll call on Tuesday.
